PLOT

The honey never lies.

Eloise Vane has kept bees for thirty years, and in all that time, she has learned one reliable truth: a hive keeps no secrets from the woman who tends it. The same, she is about to discover, cannot be said of Millbrook Hollow.

When Eloise finds a forgotten honey jar in her late grandmother's root cellar — hand-labeled 1953, wax seal still intact, and a folded note hidden beneath — she assumes she's unearthed a quaint family relic. Then Harlan Poole, Millbrook Hollow's self-appointed town historian, drops dead at the annual Founders' Day table with a spoonful of Eloise's award-winning lavender honey at his lips, and the relic begins to look a great deal more like motive.

Eloise doesn't believe her honey killed Harlan. She knows every flower her bees have visited, every grove and garden within a three-mile flight path. But someone in this tight-lipped town does believe — or wants everyone else to — and the whispers are already spreading faster than wildfire smoke over the ridge.

As Eloise follows the thread from the hidden note to a decades-old land swindle, a vanished family, and a secret that half the town has spent seventy years burying, she begins to understand that Harlan Poole didn't die because of what he knew. He died because of what he was about to prove.

In Millbrook Hollow, the sweetest things tend to have stingers.
