PLOT
Charles Montford has inherited everything a gentleman could want: twelve acres of crumbling Cotswolds countryside, a roof that leaks in four distinct places, and a family name that inspires admiration in precisely no one who knows his bank balance.
His solution: convert Thornfield Manor into the most exclusive, most charming, most impeccably English countryside bed and breakfast the Cotswolds has ever seen. His first weekend is meant to be flawless. It is not.
When Reginald Fitch, Britain's most feared food critic, is found dead in the rose garden forty minutes after afternoon tea, Charles finds himself managing two crises simultaneously: keeping five very curious, very watchful guests from discovering they may be sharing a roof with a murderer, and actually finding the murderer before Inspector Hargrove arrives with his spectacularly unhelpful notebook.
Fortunately, Charles has help. His sister Vivienne, who has a talent for insult and an encyclopedic knowledge of family scandals. Mrs. Coggins, the estate's cook, whose scones are medicinal and whose attention to detail borders on the supernatural. And a manor full of secrets that Reginald Fitch carried to his very well-dressed grave.
Some legacies are best left buried. Unfortunately, someone made sure Reginald couldn't.
